Weakening cold front expected to bring numerous showers – some may be heavy

HONOLULU (KHON2) A stalled and weakening cold front has raised rain chances for the islands through early Saturday. The weakening cold front could still pack a punch and produce isolated heavy showers for all islands. By early Saturday, stable conditions and trade winds will usher in a drier airmass.

Tonight & Thursday:

  • Showers increase: Cloud and shower activity will shift eastward tonight, bringing increased shower chances across the state.
  • Thunderstorm risk: A combination of moisture and instability may lead to thunderstorms and heavy showers overnight into Thursday.
  • Frontal influence: The strongest activity is expected near a frontal boundary due to converging winds.
  • Stream flooding possible: Some elevated streams, especially on Kauai and Oahu, may see minor flooding.

Thursday & Friday:

  • Weakening front: The front will weaken, with moderate trade winds developing.
  • Lingering moisture: Showers will continue, primarily windward and mauka, with occasional leeward showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms.
