Prosperity is a tricky thing to pin down, apparently.
On Wednesday, The Arizona Republic published an article on the wealthiest ZIP codes in the state , and for reasons I cannot comprehend, my neighborhood was left off the list.
According to the report, census data from the 2023 American Community Survey were used to compile a list of these ZIP codes and found, as the article states, that “all 10 are in metro Phoenix. Although a Scottsdale ZIP code does not have the highest median income, it does have the most ZIP codes in the top 10.”
Not only was the ZIP code where I reside not on the list, but near as I could tell, the nearest my home was to any of the top 10 ZIP codes listed was roughly 17 miles.
Seventeen miles .
America uses the wrong stats to measure wealth
I have nothing but the highest respect and admiration for my fellow journalists at The Republic and the work they do, but I’m not sure I feel the same way about the folks who put together the 2023 American Community Survey.
