The recent transition to the Next Generation 911 Emergency Services Internet Protocol Network (NG911 ESInet) marks a significant leap into the digital era, ensuring faster, more accurate, and more reliable responses for residents in need.
Gone are the days of the analog infrastructure first introduced in the 1970s. The cutting-edge ESInet system, built on a secure, high-speed digital network, now serves as the backbone of Roanoke’s emergency communication services. By integrating Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping, the system pinpoints and routes calls with unparalleled precision. It also paves the way for a future where the center can handle more than just voice and text calls during emergencies.
