New scam in Roanoke County attempts to lure victims to meet in person

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. ( WFXR ) – The Roanoke County Police Department is warning residents of a potential new scam.

A scammer in the area allegedly attempted to get an individual to come to the police department with multiple forms of ID and sign into an iPad. However, the scam did not get past the initial stages, and it is possible the scammer wanted to meet the victim in the police department parking lot.

Roanoke County PD is advising residents to not meet someone in their parking lot as it is not legitimate.

If someone is claiming to be an officer and wants to meet in any location and you believe it is an officer, call the non-emergency number at 540-562-3265 to confirm if it is a sworn law officer.
