The owners of a Wilmington tiki bar and entertainment venue announced they’ll be closing. The Sorrow Drowner opened in 2022 in the former TheatreNow location at 19 S. 10th St. It’s since offered a themed food-and-drink experience set during the golden age of adventure, circa the early 1900s.
In late 2024, a social media post said they were pausing business for the off season. Now, it looks like it will be a permanent move (after a brief reopening) as the owners relocate to the West Coast.
“Our passion for The Sorrow Drowner and its guests has been unwavering, but after careful consideration during a period of reassessment as we enjoy the off season, we have decided that the time has come to honor our original intention to return to California,” said a note posted on social media on Jan. 8.
During the transition, the owners said The Sorrow Drowner will soon reopen for bar service with a discounted drink menu and limited food and snacks.
“The decision to relocate was not made lightly. We are deeply grateful for the support we’ve received from the Wilmington community and visitors,” the note said. “We believe this move aligns with our vision for the future of The Sorrow Drowner.”
