SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – Another hard freeze away from the islands Thursday night into Friday morning. An area of low pressure in the Gulf of Mexico is going to move quickly through the Southeast, bringing rain, snow, sleet and ice. For the most part, this is an afternoon rain event that lasts through the early hours of Saturday morning. However, some moisture ahead of the “main event” may fall as flurries and sleet and or a mix of that with rain in a morning window of 7am to 10am. The best chance of seeing any white stuff is going to be along and north of I-16. While the upper levels of the atmosphere may have that moisture, it may evaporate before falling to the ground. It’s a 20-30% chance in that region of the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry. There won’t be accumulation nor impacts to roads because it’ll melt then it’ll rain and the ground is well above freezing to worry about icing.
Clouds move in overnight, but we still drop to the low to middle 20s inland and freezing at the coast. Some precipitation could develop along the warm front from west to east shortly after sunrise, 7:25am.
Any flurries or sleet should quickly transition to all rain by mid-morning as we warm. Then we likely get a break with rain beginning to increase from west-east during the afternoon as low pressure approaches…
