Union City Police Sergeant Ruben Rodriguez, 49, has been charged with filing a false report following an investigation by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Internal Affairs Unit. The arrest occurred on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, as part of an inquiry into a reported incident at the Union City Police Department.
Rodriguez alleged he was injured during an encounter with an individual at the police department on August 8, 2024. Based on his report, the individual was charged with aggravated assault. A subsequent review determined that the assault did not occur, leading to the investigation and charges against Rodriguez.
The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office collaborated with the Union City Police Department’s Internal Affairs Unit during the investigation.
