Wisconsin legend J.J. Watt: Former Badger being ‘overlooked’ in DPOY conversations

Wisconsin football legend J.J. Watt praised a fellow former Badger in his latest appearance on ESPN’s ‘The Pat McAfee Show’ on Wednesday.

After being asked about his thoughts on the 2024 Defensive Player of the Year race, the three-time recipient of the award offered some perspective on another former Badger who currently suits up for the Minnesota Vikings.

“I think [the race] about as open as it’s been in a while,” Watt said. “As you’ve seen, pass-rushers get that first look. That’s just how it goes… A guy that I think is extremely overlooked in all this [is] Andrew Van Ginkel up in Minnesota. Two pick-sixes on the year, six [pass breakups], over 75 tackles…He’s doing everything in the run, in the pass, dropping back, rushing the passer, picking it, and I think he’s overlooked.”…
