University area homicide marks first Charlotte murder of 2025

CHARLOTTE ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — One person lost their life in a homicide late Thursday night, according to the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD).

Just before 10 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 9, officers were called to a crash on the Interstate 85 southbound ramp near West WT Harris Boulevard. Officers say they arrived to find someone shot. That person was taken to a local hospital where they later died.

A suspect was arrested at the scene of the incident. There is no threat to the public, according to police. Authorities did not say what led up to the shooting.
