VB-based Operation Blessing assisting with southern Calif. fires

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – The Virginia Beach-based nonprofit Operation Blessing announced they have deployed a disaster relief team to southern California to assist with those impacted by the devastating wildfires.

With the death toll continuing to rise across the state and the evacuation of over 100,000 people, an Operation Blessing team, lead by their director of International Disaster Relief Diego Traverso, plans to distribute hygiene kits and solar lamps to residents impacted by the fires.

The team, which arrived on Thursday, will meet with emergency management officials and local partners in order to set up proper distribution points.

A tractor-trailer filled with emergency relief supplies is expected to arrive on Jan. 10. The team plans to distribute the supplies the following day, starting at 10 a.m. at the Cathedral Church Highland Park in Los Angeles.
