Crestwood Man Sentenced To Life In Prison for 2020 Double Murder

Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow announces that Anthony Maggio, 30 of Crestwood, was sentenced today by Circuit Judge Amy Bertani-Tomczak to life in prison for the double murder of Ashtin Eaton and Hazel Bryant. Maggio was found guilty of four counts of First Degree Murder following a two week jury trial that concluded on October 11, 2024.

On October 2, 2020, the Lockport Police Department were dispatched to 936 Hamilton Street for a deceased mother and daughter in the apartment. Officers found the victim, Ashtin Eaton, 32, unresponsive lying on the kitchen floor with a visible laceration to her left wrist and a boxcutter knife. Officers observed Ashtin’s mother holding her deceased granddaughter, victim, Hazel Bryant (14 months) who had been found on the bed on her stomach. Ashtin’s mother had arrived at the apartment after Ashtin’s 11-year-old daughter found her mother unresponsive in the kitchen.

During the investigation, Detectives learned that Hazel’s father, Anthony Maggio and Ashtin were having discussions regarding child support payments. Autopsies were conducted on the victims, which determined Ashtin died by strangulation and Hazel died by asphyxiation. Officers conducted an interview with the defendant who claimed that he was last at Ashtin’s apartment 12 days prior to her death. DNA evidence was collected from Ashtin’s left and right fingernails, which could not exclude the defendant as a significant contributor despite his claim that he had not seen Ashtin for several days…
