Des Moines police identify 2 officers placed on leave after fatal shooting of suspect

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines Police Department is sharing more information about two officers who shot and killed a suspect wanted on domestic abuse charges.

On Thursday, Jan. 2, officers were attempting to locate 32-year-old Charquan Mylick Hargrove. Hargrove had active felony warrants out for his arrest for offenses including Domestic Abuse Assault and Felon In Possession of A Firearm.

Police said body camera footage shows Hargrove firing a gun at officers. Two of the officers on scene, identified as Senior Police Ofc. Brian Stern and Senior Police Ofc. Nicholas Rude, returned fire, hitting Hargrove. A third officer who was on scene did not shoot…
