World War II veteran who Served in Pacific Theater dies at 98

ESCONDIDO, Calif. — Services were held Monday for Gilbert “Gil” Nadeau, who survived kamikaze attacks while serving aboard a Navy landing craft in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Nadeau died Oct. 19, 2024, in Escondido. Military honors were rendered Monday, Jan. 6, 2025. He was 98.

Nadeau had been stationed aboard a Landing Craft Support ship in the Lingayen Gulf, Philippines, preparing for the planned invasion of Japan when the war ended. “We went in to kick butt — it was world war,” he once said of his service.
