El Cajon Police Shooting: Video Released, Investigation Underway After Officers Fatally Shoot Suspect Following Attack on Officer

El Cajon Police have released a video about a critical incident involving an officer-involved shooting that took place on December 11, 2024, in the parking lot of the police department’s headquarters. The video, which contains graphic images and language as warned by the department, aims to provide transparency to the community regarding the events that transpired, according to the El Cajon Police.

According to details from a press release by the San Diego Police Department, during the preparations for a retirement ceremony, an officer was struck and thrown by a truck driven by Benjamin Grube, formerly known as Andrea Elizabeth Grube. After hitting a tree, the suspect attempted to drive towards the officers again. “At that point, Sergeant Kevin Maxwell and Officer Evan Drescher fired their service weapons multiple times, fatally wounding Grube,” as reported by Hoodline. The injured officer and another confirmed that Officer Evan Drescher, who has approximately six years of service, engaged the suspect. Grube was pronounced dead after being transported to the hospital.

The video footage of the incident was captured on surveillance cameras, and Officer Drescher’s body-worn camera was activated during the incident. These recordings will play a crucial part in the ongoing investigations. The San Diego County District Attorney’s Office will review the homicide detectives’ findings to determine if any criminal liability exists on the part of the officers involved…
