‘It has got to stop’: Rockford-area residents rally against animal cruelty

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – Community members rallied Friday outside the Winnebago County Courthouse, 420 W. State St., to bring awareness to animal cruelty.

The rally took place the same day a Rockford man appears in court for allegedly running over his own dog.

Those rallying say their hearts weigh heavy after learning about a recent case of alleged animal cruelty. Residents say it’s something you hear about and it haunts you forever.

“It hurts, it hurts,” says Margo Cortright, a rally attendee. “I have two cats, and I love animals, and I look at my animals like my children. We’re there to protect them, we have to feed them, and take care of them and be responsible for them.”…
