A man in Wales has been trying for a decade to retrieve a hard drive containing $750 million worth of Bitcoin from a landfill.
James Howells, 39, accidentally threw away the hard drive in 2013. He has been attempting to gain access to the landfill to search for it.
This week, a judge rejected Howells’ legal bid to force the local council to allow him to search the dump. The judge stated that Howells’ claim had no legal basis.
Howells believes it is possible to locate the hard drive using a combination of human sorters, robot dogs, and AI.
Despite the setback, Howells remains determined to recover the Bitcoin. He believes he still owns the cryptocurrency, even if the council owns the physical hard drive.
Howells has stated that he will continue fighting to find a way to access the Bitcoin.
