Troy and Rensselaer County invest $2.5 million to reopen Knickerbacker Ice Rink

TROY — Skaters glided across the new sheet of ice at the Knickerbacker Ice Arena Friday evening for the first time since the skating facility closed in 2018 when ice-making equipment failed.

The arena reopened after Rensselaer County invested $2 million of its federal American Rescue Plan Act funds and the city of Troy added $500,000 to pay for the $2.5million renovation and rebuilding of the rink in Knickerbacker Park in the city’s Lansingburgh neighborhood.
