Game-changing Houston barbecue joint to move west in 2025

One of Texas’ most acclaimed barbecue spots is changing its address. Brisket & Rice, which in November was awarded a designation from Michelin Guide , will head west from its current spot at 13111 FM 529 and end up at 6166 Hwy. 6 N.

The new spot, inside a former Aguirre’s Tex-Mex, is a little more than two miles from Brisket & Rice’s current location, as the restaurant is staying in northwest Houston. Co-owner Hong Tran told Chron he hopes to have the space open by April, though it’ll come down to permitting.

Brisket & Rice opened in March 2022 inside a former Church’s Chicken. There, Tran, wife Michelle Nguyen and brother Phong Tran started serving classic Central Texas fare including brisket, pork ribs and house-made sausage, but alongside white rice, making the restaurant unique from its peers in the barbecue game.
