Georgia Braces for Freezing Rain Monday: Black Ice Threat Along I-75

Peachtree City, GA – Freezing rain and icy roads are expected early Monday morning across north and central Georgia, creating hazardous travel conditions. Drivers along I-75 and other major roadways should be prepared for slick spots and black ice during their commute.

According to the National Weather Service, a weak storm system is forecast to bring a slight chance of freezing rain between 2 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Monday. While any accumulation is expected to be minimal—less than 0.1 inches—temperatures near freezing could create slippery conditions. The highest risk areas include Atlanta, Columbus, and Macon.

Motorists are urged to use extreme caution, reduce speed, and leave extra distance between vehicles, especially on bridges and overpasses where ice may form first. Travelers should also monitor updated forecasts and avoid unnecessary trips during the early morning hours.
