After over a month of uncertainty and a widespread call to action from the local community, Alyssa Umbaugh, the 15-year-old who was reported missing on December 1, 2024, has been found safe and returned to her family. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude for the community’s assistance in spreading Alyssa’s photo and aiding the search. “Alyssa Umbaugh has been safely reunited with family members. We appreciate everyone’s willingness to share her photo and information as we worked to locate her,” the office said in a release obtained by Action News Jax.
The teen’s whereabouts for over a month remained a mystery, managing to elude local authorities and concerned citizens who had been to actively seek answers. In a statement given to News4Jax, Clay County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Ben Ryan underscored the ongoing nature of the investigation, stating, “Our investigative efforts are ongoing and anyone who may have encouraged her to run away, assisted in hiding her, or kept her whereabouts unknown to law enforcement will be held accountable.”
