Calf, owner rescued from frozen pond by emergency crews in Winston-Salem

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A calf and its owner were rescued from a frozen pond in Winston-Salem on Sunday afternoon, according to the Mineral Springs Volunteer Fire Department.

Mineral Springs VFD shared photos on Facebook of the calf, which had wandered onto the frozen pond before falling through the ice. The animal’s owner hopped in their kayak and tried to save the animal, but they also needed help getting out of the water.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office and Animal Control Officers were first to arrive to the scene, and they were eventually helped out by Forsyth County Fire, the Lewisville Fire Water Rescue Team, the Winston-Salem Fire Water Rescue Team and the Piedmont Emergency Animal Response Team…
