Texan firefighters are rallying to aid their California colleagues in battling the rampant fires in Los Angeles. A unit composed of members from the Houston, Baytown, Conroe, Needham, and North Montgomery County fire departments embarked on their journey yesterday as part of a larger effort to combat the fires. They plan to rest in El Paso before continuing to the Golden State today.
Fire Chief Thomas Muñoz highlighted the communal spirit of this mission, saying, “Partnerships like this are key to the success of a world-class fire department. We are showing up for our brothers and sisters during their time of need the same way they have for us,” as per an announcement shared by the Houston Fire Department. He expressed his pride in leading the courageous team, and he called for support for those facing the calamity head-on, as well as for the people affected in Los Angeles.
The state of Texas is responding with significant resources, sending more than 135 firefighters, emergency managers, medical personnel, and over 45 vehicles, including fire engines and ambulances, command units, and related equipment. This collaborative initiative is spearheaded by the Texas Division of Emergency Management, the Texas A&M Forest Service, Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System, and Texas Emergency Medical Task Force.
