Toledo Library to present Art Tatum musical with free performance

TOLEDO, Ohio — A new musical will honor the legacy of Art Tatum – a renowned jazz musician from Toledo – with its premier at a Toledo Library branch next month.

“Art Tatum: The Musical” is a one-act musical aiming to tell the story of Tatum’s life, starting with his childhood in Toledo’s Roosevelt Neighborhood and through his impact on jazz at a global level. The musical was written, directed and produced by E’Laine Webb, a music educator and vocalist.

According to a press release from the Toledo Library, the musical will feature 11 original songs with performers including The Doug 419 Community Youth Choir, Ann Jenkins Harris Academy of Excellence Select Choir, students from Forté Music School and adult community members…
