SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. – A man was arrested for a tree service scam spanning a large chunk of the county, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
On December 20, the county sheriff’s office said, deputies responded to a theft report on Mudville Road in Millington. SCSO said the victim told them that a man claiming to represent “Johnson & Son’s Tree Service” showed up offering tree-cutting services for $3,500. Deputies said that, before any agreement could be finalized, the man started cutting trees; then, once getting paid, he left, promising to come back the next day and finish the work, but never did.
Then, on January 6, SCSO said, deputies were sent to a theft report on Nutall Oak Cove, just north of the Mississippi state line. Deputies said the victim there told them he paid $4,600 on December 31 for tree cutting services.
