Some excitement and drama at the Beaverdam Reservoir in Ashburn on Sunday — but it’s a story that has a happy ending.
According to Loudoun County Fire & Rescue, a 911 call came in around 4 p.m. Sunday. Erin Mooney of Ashburn was walking her dog, Kona, near the reservoir’s shoreline when a goose went zipping by.
Kona took off after the goose out onto the ice and then fell through into the chilly water about 12 feet from shore.
The crew from Engine 623 arrived and was able to use ladders to get out onto the ice and pike poles to break through it to reach the struggling dog.
“One of the firefighters fell through the ice,” Erin’s mom, Alison Mooney, told The Burn. “It wasn’t very deep, but it was amazing to see how they jumped into action.”…
