Fifty-six people will be laid off after Macy’s in downtown Salem closes in March, according to a WARN notice.
The Statesman Journal reported on the closure last week. Macy’s corporate office did not respond to questions, but a list of closures released on Jan. 9 confirmed the closure of the Salem location, along with 65 other Macy’s stores throughout the country.
“The entire story is closing,” Macy’s officials said in the notice to city and state officials. “Job eliminations are permanent and will occur between March 18 and March 31.”
