Russia Accuses Ukraine of Missile and Drone Attacks
Russia has accused Ukraine of firing six U.S. ATACMS and six UK Storm Shadow missiles into Russia, along with over 140 drones. Moscow claims it shot down all the missiles and drones, but warns that the attacks “will not go unanswered.”
Escalation of Ukraine Conflict
The attack comes after Ukraine launched similar missiles into Russia last year, prompting Moscow to respond with a hypersonic missile test. President Putin has warned that the conflict is escalating towards a global crisis.
Drone Attack on Russian Cities
One of the largest drone attacks to date targeted Russian cities in the Saratov region, damaging industrial sites and causing schools to shift to remote learning. Ukraine claims to have struck an oil depot serving a Russian nuclear bomber airbase.
SBU and Defense Forces Involved
A source in Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) claims that the SBU and defense forces conducted the drone attack, targeting a munitions storage facility and other targets in Russia. Reuters has not independently verified these claims.
Flight Restrictions and Plant Fires
Russian authorities have imposed flight restrictions at several airports in response to the attacks. The Aleksinsky chemical plant in Tula and the Saratovsky oil refinery have also experienced fires, while the Bryansk chemical plant has reported detonations and a fire.
