VERO BEACH — The city has rethought its plan to replace Humiston Beach boardwalk with a sidewalk and will try instead to build a replacement boardwalk, albeit one that will stand the test of time.
The City Council Tuesday unanimously repealed its decision to build a sidewalk, and directed staff to begin working with consultants to design and build a boardwalk, spurred by public outcry and donations pledged through the Indian River Community Foundation. City Manager Monte Falls estimates it needs $2.3 million.
“The city has a tall task ahead of itself,” said Mayor John Cotugno. “But, so far this idea has brought the community together. Hopefully, that momentum can carry the boardwalk over the finish line.”…
