Man sentenced to 45 years in prison for 2021 murder in Southeast DC

WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — A man was sentenced to more than four decades in prison for the murder of 22-year-old Diamonte Green in 2021, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia ( USADC ).

On Jan. 8, the attorney’s office announced that 45-year-old Bernard Matthews, of Washington, D.C. was sentenced to 45 years in prison for first-degree murder while armed, possession of a firearm during a crime of violence and other charges.

According to the evidence presented at trial, on Feb. 16, 2021, just before 4 p.m., Matthews walked several blocks in D.C. and located Green, who was reportedly threatening his son on Instagram.

Officials said Matthews shot Green eight times inside the entryway of an apartment building in the 300 block of 33rd Street, SE killing him…
