Kaarin Knudson, the new mayor of Eugene, took her public oath of office Monday and laid out goals for 2025 and the rest of her first term.
Knudson, an architect and instructor at the University of Oregon in Planning, Public Policy and Management , and the Founding Director of local housing advocacy nonprofit Better Housing Together , identified four related issues facing the city: housing, downtown housing, public spaces and homelessness, and described what steps she would take on them.
Knudson set a goal to see 1,000 new housing units in Downtown Eugene by 2030 with a combination of regulation changes, a faster approval process and affordable housing investment and said she would hold a series of community porch tours in her first year…
