ST. JAMES PARISH, La. ( WGNO ) — A St. James Parish high school student accused of having a gun on school property was arrested on Tuesday, Jan. 14.
Homicide investigation underway after remains found in Desire neighborhood
The St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies were made aware of a photo of a student in the school locker room with a gun in his waistband from December 2024 that surfaced.
During the investigation, deputies said they identified the student as 17-year-old Da’Shaun Johnson and spoke with him when he arrived at the school.

According to the sheriff’s office, Johnson “alleges the weapon was a BB pistol.” However, deputies say they were not able to verify the claim.
