Man arrested after clerk beaten, cash and cigarettes stolen from New Iberia convenience store

The New Iberia Police Department (NIPD) responded to a robbery at a convenience store located in the 1200 block of East Admiral Doyle Drive on Saturday, January 11, around 3:30 a.m. Responding officers arrived on scene and learned from the store clerk that a man entered the store, approached the clerk, and struck the clerk behind the head. The suspect demanded money from the clerk. The suspect fled the store with about $300 in cash and $350 worth of cigarettes. Officers obtained images of the suspect from video surveillance equipment. The suspect was quickly identified as Lamar Brooks, 27, of New Iberia.
