Miami-Dade Commissioner Oliver Gilbert to lead students on Civil Rights expedition

Miami-Dade County Commissioner Oliver G. Gilbert III is offering a select group of high school students the opportunity to tour some of the United States’ most important landmarks from the Civil Rights Movement during this upcoming spring break.

The “Spring Break Expedition: Civil Rights Tour” will take place from Sunday March 23 to Saturday March 29, 2025, and feature several stops along the U.S. Civil Rights Trail in Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia. The event is the latest in a series of annual expeditions offered to students annually by Gilbert, who began hosting the trips in 2022.

“The first year we went to the Grand Canyon, the second year we went to New York City, the third year we went to Washington D.C., and now we’re taking a Civil Rights tour. The goal is to show students from our community things that they may not have seen in ways they might not have been presented. I’m very excited about this trip,” said Gilbert in a press release…
