APPLETON — The man convicted of a 2021 fatal shooting at the Fox River Mall is scheduled to appear in court in March for an evidentiary hearing as part of his latest appeal efforts.
Dezman Ellis, 21, of Oshkosh, is currently serving a 40-year prison sentence for killing Jovanni Frausto, a 19-year-old from Neenah, and injuring another person at the Grand Chute mall on the afternoon of Jan. 31, 2021. At the time, Ellis was 17.
He pleaded no contest in November 2021 to one count of second-degree intentional homicide and one count of first-degree recklessly endangering safety. A no-contest plea means he accepted a guilty verdict without acknowledging or denying any guilt…
