Inspections lead to 4 Central Florida restaurant shutdowns last week

Four Central Florida restaurants shut down the week of Jan. 5-11, according to data from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

Orange

The Madras Cafe at 7730 W. Sand Lake Road in Orlando shut down on Jan. 7. The restaurant had 45 violations, four of which were high priorities. Those priorities included flying insects, roach activity, an improperly stored toxic substance and a missing vacuum breaker. A second inspection occurred the next day. Inspectors found 23 violations, issuing time extensions for the roach activity and missing vacuum breaker. A third inspection the same day found 10 violations but the restaurant met inspection standards.

Tawa Orlando at 7536 Dr. Phillips Blvd. Suite 360 in Orlando shut down on Jan. 8. Inspectors found 27 violations, four of which were high priorities. Those priorities included an improperly stored container of medicine, rodent activity, raw food not separated from ready-to-eat food and an improperly stored toxic substance. A second inspection occurred on Jan 9. There were 29 violations. Officials issued a time extension for all four high priorities.

Brevard

Wendy’s 2453 at 3323 Columbia Blvd. in Titusville shut down on Jan. 7. Inspectors found five violations, two of which were high priorities for flying insects and sewage backing up in the restrooms. A second inspection occurred on Jan. 8. There were two violations but none was a high priority. The restaurant met inspection standards.
