Game wardens went to shoot geese near Nazareth and found 100s, maybe 1,000s already dead

The Pennsylvania Game Commission this week has been shooting mass numbers of geese in the Lehigh Valley, pursuing a strategy to reduce their populations and stem the spread of bird flu.

Game wardens are using lead-free ammunition since they’re shooting into water and removing the carcasses for destruction, commission spokesman Travis Lau said Friday.

This “depopulation” effort is being focused on two Lehigh Valley bodies of water that seem to be the epicenter of avian influenza in Pennsylvania, though reports of dead birds are coming in from across the state, Lau said…
