1984 rape case halted after victim dies

An assistant district attorney said Wednesday that the state will not prosecute a nearly 40-year-old Wilson County rape case against an imprisoned convicted rapist because the victim has died.

DNA evidence linked Robert Alan Lillie, 63, to a 1984 rape in Lucama. Lillie is currently serving a life sentence in Franklin Correctional Center in Franklin County after being convicted of first-degree rape, first-degree kidnapping and first-degree sexual offense in a different case on March 24, 1988, in Alamance County.
