Deaf St. Louis woman, 62, mauled to death by dogs after ‘she couldn’t hear them coming’

Authorities in St. Louis are investigating an apparent dog attack that left a 62-year-old hearing-impaired woman dead after she was attacked in her backyard.

Officers with the St. Louis Police Department were called to a home in the 5900 block of Theodore Avenue for reports of shots fired, according to police. When officers arrived at the home they found the severely injured 62-year-old Gladys Anthony and an injured 73-year-old man surrounded by three dogs in their backyard. They were attempting to fend off the dogs with a broom and reportedly fired a gun to try and distract the animals, which is what prompted the 911 call.

According to police, Anthony was already seriously injured and losing significant amounts of blood. Officers took her back inside the house where they applied tourniquets in an attempt to stop the bleeding while waiting for EMS to arrive, according to police.

EMS responded to the scene and transported Anthony to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries and passed away…
