Amtrak’s Private Sleeper Car: A Cozy Ride Through the American Southwest
Taking a 15-hour train ride on Amtrak’s California Zephyr was a luxurious experience. For $400, I stayed in a 23-square-foot roomette, which transformed from a seating area during the day to a comfortable sleeping space at night.
The roomette featured two seats that reclined into a lower bunk and a pull-down upper bunk. There was ample storage space, including a closet for hanging clothes. Amenities included a pullout table, a sink, and access to shared bathrooms and a shower.
Despite its compact size, the roomette felt spacious thanks to the wide windows that offered stunning views of the American Southwest. The seats were plush and supportive, and the bedding was luxurious.
The train also included access to a lounge, priority boarding, and three meals on board. A dedicated attendant was available to assist with reservations, turndown service, and other requests.
Overall, the roomette provided a comfortable and memorable way to experience the beauty of the American West while enjoying the amenities of a private space.
