Distribution center helps families with neurodivergent children affected by L.A. wildfires

As families work to recover in the aftermath of the devastating Los Angeles wildfires, the San Gabriel Pomona Regional Center is focused on helping displaced families with children who have special needs.

Operating as a distribution center, workers aim to provide families affected by the Eaton Fire with essential supplies such as clothing, health products, diapers, blankets and more.

“We are the agency of support and services for people with developmental disabilities, so that’s an additional layer that these families that have been impacted by the wildfires have to navigate,” explained Yvonne Gratianne, the communications and public engagement officer for the San Gabriel Pomona Regional Center. “When you have a home with somebody with special needs, it’s a different layer of challenge, not only to provide a safe environment, but no you’re navigating other situations in the family dynamic.”

Martin Rodriguez said his 12-year-old son, Maximillian, is a special needs child and when they were displaced by the wildfire, they were relieved to find the distribution center in their time of need…
