Residents of Hawaii have been sharing video and photos of the Kilauea volcano’s spectacular eruption as the most recent episode stretches on into the fourth day.
Newsweek has reached out to U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) by email on Saturday morning for comment.
The context
The Kilauea volcano began erupting on December 23, but so far eruptions have remained confined to the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, meaning residents have not had to evacuate or fear any potential harm-even as gas emissions do raise concerns about long-term health issues.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday, USGS Volcanoes posted a video of the most recent eruption episode, showing two vents spewing lava plumes and assuring there is “no unusual activity noted along East or Southwest Rift Zones.”
