NEW: Extreme to cold weather alerts explained

GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – Something new seen this winter from the National Weather Service, are Extreme to Cold Weather Alerts. Which, are in place across the area this week.

It’s a new set of warnings put together, issued from the National Weather Service and here’s what you need to know: The new set includes: Extreme Cold Warning, Extreme Cold Watch and Cold Weather Advisory.

Action is needed to be done when an ‘Extreme Cold Warning’ has been issued. This means, dangerously cold air temperatures or wind chills are expected or currently happening. It is suggested to avoid going outside during this time. Although, for those that have to go outside certain actions should be taken such as: dress in layers, cover any skin that is or may be exposed to the cold, and make sure others know about your actions outdoors…
