When I moved to Birmingham, Alabama, from Oxford, Mississippi, I was introduced to Conecuh sausage—a staple beloved by Alabamians, known for its distinct hickory-smoked flavor. My first taste was in a Cheddar biscuit, followed by a hearty bean soup at a favorite dive bar, and soon I saw it featured on menus across the city and state.

But in Mississippi, Country Pleasin’ sausage holds a special place in the hearts (and bellies) of its residents.

Country Pleasin’ Sausage, based out of Florence, Mississippi, is also a hickory-smoked pork sausage blend, much like Conecuh. However its flavor is slightly less strongly smoky, with a freshness and brightness particularly suited for big-pot meals with lots of added flavors and spices like gumbo and jambalaya. Cherished for its variety of spin-off flavors and reliable standards like andouille, Country Pleasin’ can rightfully be considered the Conecuh of Mississippi.

The sausage itself comes in a horseshoe-shaped link and is vacuum-sealed tightly for freshness.
