Hochul declares state of emergency as lake effect storm, arctic air arrive

Albany, N.Y. — Gov. Kathy Hochul on Monday evening declared a state of emergency across much of Upstate and Western New York as a lake effect snowstorm and frigid arctic air arrive.

The emergency declaration is for Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Jefferson, Lewis, Niagara, Oneida, Orleans, Oswego and Wyoming counties, according to a news release from the governor’s office.

Two to three feet of lake effect snow is expected to fall in the Tug Hill plateau area, according to the National Weather Service. One to two feet is projected for the Buffalo region…
