Mercy College of Ohio teams with local organizations to help out northwest Ohio on MLK Day

TOLEDO, Ohio — Mercy College of Ohio is one of many organizations throughout the region participating in a Day of Service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on MLK Day.

Faculty and staff of Mercy College visited nine different locations, volunteering their time to help their community.

Organizations included:

  • Habitat for Humanity: Volunteers painted and furnished a newly built home
  • La Posada Family Shelter: Volunteers prepped meals, cleaned the shelter, and visited with those who were staying there
  • Manahan: Volunteers cleaned and organized and partook in crafts and activities with adults with developmental disabilities
  • Senior Center Inc.: Volunteers cleaned parts of the building
  • Community of Hope Clinic: Volunteers cleaned parts of the building
  • Cherry Street Mission: Volunteers prepped, packed, and served meals
  • Food for Thought: Volunteers stocked and sorted through the food shelves
  • Mercy College: Volunteers assembled “no sew” blankets for children and adults at Beach House Family Shelter
  • Islamic Food Bank: Volunteers packed “weekender bags” for families in the Toledo area.

WTOL 11 caught up with volunteers at the Islamic Food Bank, where 10 of those Mercy College faculty and staff packed 800 “weekender bags” alongside other organizations…
