Rekindled Querbes ‘culture’ evident as community shows out to help protect greens

Shreveport’s city golf courses are closed this week due to the frigid temperatures.

However, unlike last year, when the greens at both Querbes Park and Huntington Park were left unprotected and ravaged by adverse conditions, the city and the community stepped up and did their best to ensure the most precious part of the local gems are preserved.

Saturday, members of the public joined Querbes employees and volunteers to unveil 19 massive covers. The group of roughly 25 gathered at noon and began to secure the putting surfaces at 12:30, trailing the last few golfers to hit the links prior to the closure.

“It’s woven in the fabric of the Querbes lifestyle,” Querbes director of golf Nathan Barrow said. “The members come out and say, ‘Hey this is our golf course and we want to help.’ We’d rather be closed a few days in January than days in June because we have a disease on the greens.”…
