Wanted man chased on foot by police after allegedly choking girlfriend

A Leesburg man was arrested after running from law enforcement when they went to detain him for allegedly choking his girlfriend and two warrants.

Officers responded to reports of domestic battery at an undisclosed Lake County residence around 3:47 a.m. Friday, according to an arrest report from the Tavares Police Department.

Upon arrival, the officers met with the female victim who advised that 28-year-old Darrius Ky’Mantae Saxton, her boyfriend of two months, had choked her while they were in bed together. The report noted that prior to the officers’ arrival, dispatch advised that Saxton held two active Lake County arrest warrants for petit larceny (second conviction) and petit theft (second offense).

The victim granted the officers permission to enter her residence to secure Saxton. As they went in, they identified themselves as law enforcement and demanded that any subjects inside make themselves known. Deputies with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office had arrived at that point and had taken up position behind the residence, the report said…
