Motorists asked to avoid busy Millcreek Township intersection after tree falls

Millcreek Township police are asking motorists to avoid a busy township intersection after a toppled tree took down power lines and traffic signals early Tuesday morning.

According to police, a large tree fell onto the roadway at the intersection of Route 505 and Old French Road. It struck several power lines and traffic signals controlling the intersection, bringing them down, police reported.

Penelec parent company FirstEnergy reported on its website at 7 a.m. Tuesday that there were two reported power outages near the intersection, with each affecting fewer than 20 customers.
