2 sought in theft of fire engine equipment in Rancho Cucamonga amid LA wildfires

Investigators are looking for two men accused of stealing equipment from a U.S. Forest Service fire engine in Rancho Cucamonga as wildfires and high Santa Ana winds raged across Southern California.

The theft took place about 3 a.m. Friday, as San Bernardino National Forest Engine 336 was parked behind the Hilton Inn Express & Suites, 9589 Milliken Ave., USFS officials said. The firefighters assigned to the engine were serving as part of a strike team responding to a high wind event .

As captured by nearby surveillance cameras, a red, two-door Jeep Wrangler with a black soft top, tan seats pulled alongside the engine, according to a USFS statement . The Jeep had a California license plate with a first digit of “6.”…
