GUN PLAIN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Speed and weather conditions were believed to be contributing factors in what authorities are calling a “serious” traffic crash near Plainwell on Tuesday morning.
No names were disclosed by Allegan County Sheriff’s Sergeant Steven Damveld following the incident reported shortly before 10 AM on southbound US-131 near the 48 mile marker, south of the M-89 Allegan Road exit. According to eye witnesses, a SUV was struck by a heavy-duty pickup truck that was hauling an animal trailer, causing both vehicles involved to careen into a semi that was in another lane of travel.
The drivers of both the SUV and the pickup were taken to separate “nearby” hospitals for treatment, while Damveld didn’t mention if the semi trucker was hurt. Deputies closed the southbound lanes at Allegan Road while the mishap was being cleaned up, and investigators reconstructed the incident…
